Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship Drivers Have Their Eye On The Prize

With Round 3 of the Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship now over, drivers are raring to go with their eyes on the finish line of the final next month.

It was an action-packed weekend for Round 3 of the Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship held at Taupo International Motorsport Park.

The drivers battled it out on the track whilst the weather provided an added challenge, raining throughout the practice and qualifying rounds over the first few days. However, things quickly started to look up as the sun soon dried things out for the teams, allowing the drivers to focus less on safety and more on the finish line.

Spectators watched with excitement and anticipation through all three races as they witnessed drivers giving it their all through the trials and tribulations on the track. The results saw Jono McFarlane step into the lead of the GT4 Championship in his Mercedes AMG GT4 with 771 points, with defending GT4 Champion Nigel Cromie in second with 721 points aboard his McLaren GT4, and Stephen Harrison in his Aston Martin GT4 in third on 670 points.

In the Open Class, Marco Giltrap is now leading with 739 points in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Heremana Malmezac has maintained second place with 707 points in his Porsche 911 GT3 MR, and Luke Manson is just five points behind with 702 aboard his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

There are just three races left for the teams, all of which will be held at the final round of the Golden Homes GT NZ Championship on the 14th - 16th of April, at Manfeild. The deciding round will be one to watch, with two hours’ worth of total race time remaining for chasing drivers to challenge the lead for the final places on the podium.
